One of the best things about visiting Upstate New York is getting to stay overnight.
There’s nothing like waking up to the smell of fresh air and a pot of coffee brewing on the stove. Here’s a quick round up of some of my latest and greatest finds.
Halcyon Farm Bed & Breakfast
157 Lang Road, Amsterdam, NY 12010 / 518-842-7718 / 800-470-2170
Halcyon is a beautiful farm house centered in the quiet, rolling countryside of Amsterdam, NY. The house is run by a charming older couple who prepare a delicious breakfast every morning for the sweet and savory at heart. The rooms evoke the tasteful charm of the late 19th century, with a contemporary approach to simplicity.
Gray Street Guest House
29 Gray Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603 / 845-418-2548
Rated one of New York State’s top vacation rentals by INSIDEHOOK, and featured in the design journal Archetizer, Poughkeepsie’s Gray Street Guest House merges modern design and rustic charm, making it the perfect home base for exploring the Historic Hudson Valley.
The Union Street Guest House is located just one block over from Warren Street, Hudson’s main thoroughfare, known for it’s creative boutiques, exciting cuisine, and tastefully curated antique shops. The guest house is comprised of a collection of spacious suites connected through a private courtyard. Each is appointed with an eye for design – incorporating a collection of vintage items like industrial sinks and mid-century artwork with modern, minimalist elements. Our Technology Advisor, Lee Mars, and Content Strategist, Eban Howell, have both reported back from separate stays at the 1850 House and have only good things to say. Immaculate rooms, a well-stocked bar, and an incredible breakfast. I’ve taken a tour of the building and I was impressed with the simple aesthetic, the beautiful views of Roundout Creek, and the helpful staff.
The Roundhouse at Beacon Falls is a hotel, restaurant and bar located on a campus of reclaimed factory buildings in the center of the town’s shopping district. The bold brick boxes are perched above a series of waterfalls that once provided hydroelectric power to the factories. The guest rooms – along with the grand dining room and bar – tell a visual story of rustic details and clean modern lines. The Roundhouse also features an immense event space with glass walls overlooking the falls.
Mountain Horse Farm is located in the southern foothills of the Finger Lakes wine region. European-run, this tasteful two-story ranch is set within a peaceful natural landscape at the end of a private road. Wake up in the morning to an exquisite breakfast served in the spacious dining room, then head down to the stables for some bonding time with their beautiful horses.
